Easy Kid Friendly Fall Decor

Fall-DIY-decorFall is one of my favorite seasons.  It’s that time of year that reminds us that the holiday season is right around the corner.  We are always decorating during this time of year and I wanted to put together something special for the kids because they seem to really like little forest animals and holiday décor whenever we are out shopping.  I’m sure I’ll let them create other fall crafts before winter but, this gave me an excuse to get crafty.  If your anything like me, during this time of year it’s not hard to get bitten by the holiday craft bug!  So here’s a quick and easy kid friendly fall pumpkin tutorial for you.  You can place this on the fireplace mantel, side table or coffee table where ever.  Let’s get started.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • pumpkin
  • white paint (or paint color of choice)
  • ribbon
  • marker
  • metal tacks
  • decoration of choice
  • paint brush or sponge
Step 1
First I painted my cream colored pumpkin with white craft paint.  I used a craft sponge to apply the white paint all over the pumpkin.  I applied two coats of paint to the pumpkin.  Then I used the paint brush to get in the tight spots near the pumpkin stem. I left the pumpkin stem natural as I liked the pretty greens and neutral tones it already had.
Step 2
Next, I used a yellow sharpie to write the word autumn on the front of the pumpkin.  This will give me the word stencil I will need to follow when I’m applying the metal tacks.  I usually don’t use a sharpie for something like this but, it was close by so I grabbed it.  I recommend a regular marker something you can wipe off if you mess up.
Step 3
Fall-DIY-decor-metal-tacksI applied the gold metal tacks following the word autumn that I had written on the pumpkin.  I needed to go a slight bit bigger than my handwritten guide that I wrote on the pumpkin but, no big deal.  I tried to keep my cursive as straight as possible.  I must admit I almost made a boo boo!  Lol
Step 4
Fall-DIY-pumkin-tableAfter applying all of the metal tacks forming the word autumn the fun begins!  I took my ribbon and tied a cute bow at the top and used the squirrel and acorn as the pumpkin decoration on the pumpkin and on the table.  So, cute!I just adore this hound’s-tooth pattern on the ribbon don’t you? I may be incorporating this pattern in my Christmas holiday décor as well this year.  Along with a few others we’ll see.
There you have it!  Cute, simple kid friendly fall décor that’s sure to get a lot of attention! Now it’s your turn show us what DIY fall décor you created this year.  Tag us on Instagram at #abeautifulnestfall  Give this simple pumpkin a try!  Have fun!
