(Video Tutorial) A Beautiful Wash and Go!

I can tell you that my coily hair and I have had a bit of a love, hate relationship.  I am so glad to be on this natural hair journey.  There have been times that I wanted to give up and “make it easy on myself”  by relaxing it again (Chemically processing it to be straight).  But, I said NO that is not for me, that is NOT what I want!  I must keep pushing forward there has to be light at the end of this tunnel right?  Right!
Wash-n-go-tutorial-2So let me tell you about my struggle. LOL.  I would watch YouTube videos of these lovely ladies doing what is called the “Wash and Go”.  They would wash their hair, apply some type of product on it, and out of the blue these beautiful ringlets of curls would appear.  After their hair dried it was like OMG!  So I tried their routines and tried and tried again but nothing would work.  My hair would turn out like I had stuck my head in the mud like an ostrich and came out with this…let’s just say not so cute afro. LOL! So fast forward to months of searching the internet, I was convinced that my hair could curl.  My hair formed these cute little tiny ringlets when wet and I just wanted them to stay pretty…all day.  I found this method called the Max Hydration Method which seemed to be working for ladies with low porosity hair or 3c, 4a, 4b, and even 4c hair anyway hair like mine.  I know what your thinking what in the world are those letters and numbers you just rattled out?  Well it’s hair typing, a method used to determine your unique hair pattern.  So, on my head I have found that I have several possibilities.  What to do, what to do?  If you would like to know a little more about hair types you can read about it here.  I found the Max Hydration method from the sweetest ladies on YouTube MsDeekay2012, Pinke Cube and Aketafitgirl.  Thank you ladies for helping to guide me to my own unique technique that works for me!  Wash-n-go-tutorial
To get started with this method here’s what you’ll need:
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Leave In Conditioner/Detangler (I used Kinky Curly Knot Today.  I have also used Giovonni conditioner)
  • Deep Conditioner (I used Sofn’free Gro Healthy Milk Protein & Olive Oil Really Deep Conditioning Treatment)
  • Bentonite Clay
  • Gel (I used my homemade Flaxseed Gel I have also tried Kinky Curly Custard)
Natural-hair-productsI have developed my own technique skipping the Cherry Lola which is a part of the original method but, I didn’t feel that it was necessary.  I started the regimen going straight into washing my hair with a sulfate shampoo ONLY to remove as much product as possible.  I wanted to assure that my hair was completed naked.  I then clarified my hair with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water.  Next, I detangled my hair using Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner and detangler.  Then, I deep conditioned my hair with Sofn’free Gro Healthy Milk Protein & Olive Oil Really Deep Conditioning treatment.  Next, I used a well mixed Bentonite clay and water mix that was of a creamy texture and applied that to my rinsed hair.  I let it sat on my hair for about 15 minutes and worked it down the hair strands detangling and clumping the curls.  I washed it out completely and I applied my homemade flaxseed gel to small sections of my hair to set the curls.  I defused my hair because I didn’t have time for it to air dry and then stretched it with my blow dryer to create more volume.  I like to use a hair pick to fluff the roots and create even more volume.  Oh la la!Max-Hydration-natural-hair-tutorial-pic Here’s a full tutorial that you can follow along to get a better idea of how I did it on  A Beautiful Nest TV YouTube Channel.  Don’t forget to Like and Subscribe for more videos, Tutorials, Lifestyle, Recipes, DIY and more!  We would love to hear from you, so leave a comment down below and tell me how you do your wash and go.  Enjoy, and until next time my Beautiful Friends! 1. Sorry for the late reply. Personally I feel that I am still in the process of reaching max hydration. I can tell you that I saw a major difference with the curls forming from the roots in about a month. XoXo Sandria

  3. Do you do this regimen all the time, how long have you been doing this regimen, what do you do between, and what is your hair porosity? Sorry for all of the questions lol.

    1. Yes I do this regimen weekly. I have been trying this method for about a year now. Usually I am wearing a style before my hair wash day. If I don't wear a wash and go I'll wear a protective style. I also deep condition weekly. I don't know what my hair porosity is. I think my hair type is 4b and 4c. Hope this helps. I hope you subscribed here and on our YouTube channel so you don't miss a post. XoXo Sandria (Sandy)
